Google Nexus S: ‘Contour Display’ explained

Along with its headline-grabbing Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, the Google Nexus S also features what manufacturer Samsung calls a ‘Contour Display’.

“Nexus S is manufactured by Samsung,” says Google, “and it is the first smartphone to launch with a Contour Display. The curved glass screen fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face.”

Is that it? Nuh-uh, says Google. The display is also brighter with a higher contrast, which means that “colors are incredibly vibrant, text is crisp at any size, and luminance is up to 1.5x higher than conventional LCD displays.”

Outside, Google claims that, thanks to the contoured glass on the Nexus S, there is 75% less glare than on other smartphone displays.

The Contour Display also uses a “thin-profile glass panel, making Nexus S uniquely slim and trim,” adds Google.
