Need go-anywhere wireless? Who doesn’t? It’s the whole point of carrying around a smartphone. The Aria features 3G/HSDPA (7.2 Mbps), 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR. The Legend matches it Megabit for Megabit, wireless for wireless and tooth for tooth… (1-1)

Size & Weight:

Few of today’s newest phones are chunky and fat-assed, so the Aria measures 104.1 x 58.4 x 11.7mm, while the Legend is 112.0 x 56.3 x 11.5mm. The Legend is the lengthier of the two phones by a margin of 7.9mm. The Legend also carries more weight than the Aria. Compare the two and the Legend weighs 126g, while the Aria is a more lightweight 115g. (2-1)

The Aria’s camera boasts a 5.0 Megapixel resolution. Frills include autofocus, geo-tagging, ‘touch focus’ and VGA video recording. The two phones match each other for megapixels – the Legend also packs a 5.0 Megapixel camera with autofocus, a balance-tipping LED flash, geo-tagging and video recording. (2-2)

The design of HTC’s Aria features a 3.2-inch touch-sensitive LCD screen, with a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. The Legend’s touch-sensitive AMOLED screen matches its opponent for size. The screen resolution is exactly the same. (2-2)

As for speed, the Aria’s core uses a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM 7227 chip, the same processor you’ll find inside the Legend. Both phones run Android 2.1 (Eclair) with HTC’s Sense UI. (2-2)

Downloadable apps:

Both the Aria and the Legend feature a microSD slot to boost the storage to a roomier 32GB. (2-2)

Battery life:

Calculating battery life is tricky. But the Aria weighs in with 6.0 hours of talktime, which the Legend matches. In terms of standby times, the Aria can last 372 hours, while the Legend boasts 560 hours. A defeat for the Aria. (2-3)

The Aria also includes a stereo FM radio (with RDS) plus GPS/A-GPS. The Legend also features a stereo FM radio with RDS, the same GPS/A-GPS sat-nav and a neat aluminum unibody design. (2-4)

The HTC Legend wins!

HTC Legend HTC Aria vs. HTC Legend ReviewNot the most exciting of fights, but Legend emerges as the winner of this fight (2-4). Note the LED flash for taking better pictures in low lighting conditions. And, well, it just looks better… HTC sculpted the Legend from a single piece of aluminum. It might be showing its age, but it’s still a looker.
