You’ve seen the specs for the two phones above. But that doesn’t immediately tell you which one is technically superior. Here’s how this HTC Butterfly vs. Google Nexus 4 fight plays out…

HTC Butterfly vs. Google Nexus 4 – Connectivity

The Butterfly is equipped with a 3G/HSDPA chipset, along with NFC, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP. It also gets a speed boost with 4G connectivity. Google’s Nexus 4 comes with NFC, 3G/HSDPA, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP as standard. There’s no 4G here, however.

How pocket-friendly are our two phones? There’s not much of a gap between the two – the Butterfly is 143.0 x 70.5 x 9.1mm; Google’s phone is 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1mm. Overall, the Nexus 4 is smaller. The Butterfly is only ever so slightly beefier than its opponent, weighing 140g. In contrast, the Nexus 4 weighs 139g. If you own poor quality scales, you’ll never notice the difference between the two.

First, let’s examine the Butterfly, which packs in an 8.0 Megapixel camera (3264 x 2448 pixels) with extras that include: autofocus, touch focus, LED flash, face/smile detection, geo-tagging, simultaneous video/photo recording and 1080p video recording. For video calling, you’ll find a second 2.1MP camera on the front.

The Nexus 4 also comes equipped with an 8.0 MP snapper along with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and 1080p video recording. Another 1.3 Megapixel camera located on the front is ideal for video calls.

The design of HTC’s Butterfly features a 5.0-inch touch-sensitive Super LCD3 screen, with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. There are 2073600 pixels overall, which translates to a superb 440.6 pixels per inch.

In comparison, the Nexus 4′s touch-sensitive True HD IPS screen is 4.7 inches wide. Unfortunately, it boasts a lower resolution (only 768 x 1280 pixels) than the Butterfly. The pixel density of 317.66 pixels per inch here is less than the 440.6 rating given to the Butterfly.
