optimus g pro news LG Optimus G Pro spotted with faster 1.7GHz Snapdragon

Japanese carrier NTT Docomo is currently teasing specs for the improved LG Optimus G Pro, which include a 5.0-inch, 1080 x 1920 pixel full HD LCD, a 13MP digital camera and a top-end 1.7GHz quad core APQ8064 Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro.

This is where the ‘Pro’ comes in. Compared to the older LG Optimus G, the screen on the Optimus G Pro is bigger (4.7 inches vs 5.0 inches) and it trumps the former’s 768 x 1280 HD screen resolution. The Snapdragon chip inside is also faster. The LG Optimus G features a 1.5GHz APQ8064 CPU.

The rest of the specs suggest a smartphone that is 139 x 70 x 10mm and 160g in size. That’s significantly bigger and heavier than the plain LG Optimus G, which measured 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5mm and tipped the scales at 145g. The extra heft is undoubtedly down to the fact that there looks to be a bigger battery inside to support the demands of the upgraded processor and roomier display.

As for the rest of the specs, the camera on the LG Optimus G Pro is the same 13MP CMOS sensor, although it looks like the front camera has been upgraded to a 2.4MP lens. The new phone will also support memory cards up to 64GB and will run Android 4.1 out of the box. An upgrade to 4.2 looks more than likely, although LG will need to incorporate it into their Optimus UI.

Keep an eye out for fights featuring this phone as soon as we have the full specifications confirmed.
