Just how ‘incredible’ is HTC’s Incredible handset after going six rounds with the Motorola Droid X? It’s a battle of the Droids as Verizon unleashes a new flagship phone…

Connectivity:

The Droid X is equipped with a CDMA 800/1900, EVDO rev. A chipset, along with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP. HTC’s Droid Incredible comes with CDMA2000 1xRTT/1xEVDO/1xEVDO rev. A, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP as standard. A narrow hit for the Droid X. (1-0)

Size & Weight:

Contrast the two phones and there’s a sizeable difference between the two – the Droid X is 127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9mm; HTC’s phone is 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9mm. Overall, the Droid Incredible is smaller. Drop the two handsets on the scales and the Motorola Droid X weighs 155g, while the Droid Incredible is only 130g. (1-1)

Camera:

The Droid X is equipped with a 8.0 Megapixel camera with autofocus, a dual LED flash, mechanical shutter (1/1000 speed), image stablization and 16:9 image capture. It also offers owners 720p HD video recording. The two phones match each other for megapixels – the Droid Incredible also packs a 8.0 Megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and geo-tagging. It does record video, but not of the high-def variety. (2-1)

Screen/keyboard:

The Droid X incorporates a touch-sensitive LCD display, 4.3 inches in size and with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Measuring just 3.7 inches, the Droid Incredible’s touch-sensitive AMOLED screen is smaller (although most screens are when compared to this 4.3-inch display). The Incredible also boasts a lower resolution (only 480 x 800 pixels) than the powerful Droid X. (3-1)

Performance:

As far as performance is concerned, the Droid X’s engine is a 1GHz OMAP chip; the Droid Incredible relies on a Snapdragon (QSD8650), also rated at 1GHz. The Droid X uses Android 2.1 (Eclair – upgradeable to Froyo 2.2) with MotoBlur, while the Droid Incredible runs Android 2.1 (Eclair) with HTC’s Sense UI on top. There’s very little between them here. Storage:

The standard 16GB of memory supplied in the Droid X trumps the 8GB capacity of the Incredible. The Droid X also includes a microSD card slot to ramp up the memory to 40GB, which the Droid Incredible matches. (4-2)

Battery life:

With a fully topped-up battery, the Droid X boasts 8.0 hours of talktime according to Motorola, while the Droid Incredible is rated at 5.2 hours. Standby time is rated at 220 hours and 146 hours respectively. The Droid Incredible drops the round here. (5-2)

Extras:

The Droid X also includes GPS/A-GPS, 3-microphone multi-directional audio, an HDMI microconnector for HD video out, a digital compass and an LED spotlight. The Droid Incredible features GPS/A-GPS, an FM radio tuner and a digital compass (6-2)

It has the best all-round camera features, the most memory and a better display. Despite its size and weight, the Droid X is also the thinnest of the two phones. Verizon has a winner on its hands.
