Who would win a showdown between the Nokia Lumia 620 and the Nokia Lumia 920? We could give the first phone a pistol with 100 bullets, the second a machine gun with 10 bullets, and watch them go at it, both guns blazing. Or we could let the specs decide over 10 tech rounds? Yeah, let’s do that…

Round #1 – Connectivity

The Lumia 620 is equipped with a 3G/HSDPA chipset, along with NFC, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR. Nokia’s Lumia 920 comes with NFC, 3G/HSDPA, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.1 with A2DP and EDR as standard. It also enjoys a 4G speed boost.

Round #2 – Size & Weight

How big do you like your phones? There’s not much of a gap between the two – the Lumia 620 is 115.4 x 61.1 x 11.0mm; Nokia’s phone is 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7mm. Overall, the Lumia 620 is smaller. The Lumia 920 weighs 185g, whereas the Lumia 620 is 58 lighter and weighs 127g.

Round #3 – Cameras

As for photo/video prowess, the Lumia 620′s 5.0 MP lens features autofocus, LED flash, face detection and 720p video recording. For video calls and self portraits, there’s also a front-facing camera (0.3 Megapixels).

The Lumia 920 boasts superior imaging technology and defeats the Lumia 620 with a 8.0 Megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash, Carl Zeiss optics, PureView technology, touch focus, image stabilization and 1080p video recording. A extra camera on the front is designed for video calling. The resolution is 1.3MP.

Round #4 – Screen/keyboard

Nokia has built the Lumia 620 with a 3.8-inch touch-sensitive display. The LCD screen has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. With its 3.8-inch display and an average overall pixel count of 384000, the Lumia 620 has a pixels per inch rating of 245.526.

The 4.5-inch touch-sensitive IPS ClearBlack LCD screen on the Lumia 920 is bigger. With 983040 pixels on the 4.5-inch screen, the pixel density is a formidable 331.778 pixels per inch.

Round #5 – Processor

Next up is processing power – inside the Lumia 620 there’s a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip, rated at 1GHz. The Lumia 920 boasts a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor.

Round #6 – Software

Both of Nokia’s phones run Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.

Score: +1 to both phones (2-5)

Round #7 – Applications

You’ll have noticed that both the Lumia 620 and the Lumia 920 connect to the Windows Phone Store, so they both leave this round with a point.

Round #8 – Storage

Let’s move on. The Nokia Lumia 620 is only available in one configuration with 8GB of storage. The Nokia Lumia 920 also comes with one storage option – 32GB. Obviously, the Lumia 920 boasts 32GB compared to the default 8GB capacity of the Lumia 620. But the Lumia 620 also boasts a microSD slot, which can increase the maximum capacity to 72GB. Unlike its rival, the Lumia 920 is missing an expansion slot and so the max storage option remains at 32GB.

Score: +1 to both phones (4-7)

Round #9 – Battery life

How long will the battery last? The Lumia 620 boasts 9.5 hours of talktime according to Nokia, while the Lumia 920 is rated at 10.0 hours. Standby time is rated at 330 hours and 400 hours respectively. The Lumia 620 finishes last here.

In comparison, the Lumia 920 offers GPS/A-GPS, NFC, an accelerometer, gyroscope, digital compass, DLNA connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot functionality and free SkyDrive storage

BPF Verdict: The Nokia Lumia 920 wins!

Here’s how this fight played out. It’s an emphatic win for the Lumia 920 and, as Nokia’s flagship Window Phone 8 model, this is hardly surprising. It has the highest-spec camera, the most memory out of the box and a bigger, superior IPS ClearBlack display.
