Let’s talk wireless connectivity, shall we? The Ativ S includes NFC, 3G/HSDPA, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP. No 4G though. Huawei has jammed its handset with NFC, 3G/HSDPA, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR/A2DP. 4G isn’t supported here either.

Size-wise, the round plays out like this. The Ativ S measures 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7mm. In comparison, the Ascend W1 is 124.5 x 63.5 x 10.15mm. The Ascend W1 is the shorter of the two phones by 12.7mm. Samsung has built an 8.0 Megapixel lens into the Ativ S together with features such as autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization, geo-tagging and 1080p video recording. There’s also a 1.9MP front-facing camera for video chat/Skype.

Despite autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and 720p video recording, the Ascend W1′s 5.0 Megapixel camera drops points here. Another 0.3 Megapixel camera located on the front is ideal for video calls.

The Ativ S boasts a touch-sensitive Super AMOLED display, measuring 4.8 inches and delivering a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Packing 921600 pixels into this 4.8-inch screen results in pixel density of 306.042 pixels per inch (PPI).
