The best Samsung phones you can buy

by Jerry D on March 18, 2011

We see a lot of good phones here at Big Phone Fight and we try to rank them accordingly on our big list of the best smartphones. But let’s narrow our focus a bit. What are the best Samsung phones around?

Samsung Galaxy S2

The fantastic Samsung Galaxy S2 blows most of its competition right out of the water thanks to a bleeding edge technology package. This includes a 1GHz Dual-core Exynos processor and a luxurious 4.27-inch (480 x 800 pixel) Super AMOLED Plus display (reinforced with Gorilla Glass). HSPA+ connectivity will push data speeds beyond what plain-old 3G is capable of.

Google Nexus S

While it rocks a prominent Google badge, the Nexus S has its origins in Samsung’s Korean factories. There’s lots to like. The Google Nexus S runs an undiluted build of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and will be ripe for the first upgrades to 2.4 and beyond. It’s well-specced too, featuring a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED (480×800 pixels) screen, built-in NFC and a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 ‘Hummingbird’ engine.

Samsung Galaxy S

The original Samsung Galaxy S was arguably the first phone to give Apple’s iPhone 4 a run for its money. It was released in a number of different versions too – the Captivate (AT&T), the Vibrant (T-Mobile) and the Fascinate (Verizon). The core i9000 model widened eyes with a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, a 5.0 Megapixel camera and 119g build, all wrapped up in a smart Android wrapper.

Samsung Wave

As a recent fight showed, the original Wave is arguably a better handset than its successor, the Samsung Wave II. Note the 3.3-inch Super AMOLED display, the 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU and the superb 5.0 Megapixel camera (with HD video capture). The only let-down is Samsung’s home-baked Bada OS. The Samsung Wave would be a much better phone with Android installed.

Samsung Omnia 7

Few Windows Phones have made much of an impact, but we think that the Samsung Omnia 7 is the best of the bunch. For starters, it rocks a bright and clear 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display, while around the back there’s a 5.0MP digital camera with LED flash. Performance is good too, thanks to a combination of a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 OS.
